Luxury fashion brand Prada and space exploration company Axiom Space have unveiled the new spacesuit designs for NASA’s upcoming Artemis III moon mission. The reveal took place at the International Astronautical Congress in Milan, showcasing the innovative suits astronauts will wear during the mission, currently scheduled for late 2026.
The predominantly white suits feature a cropped torso design with stone-gray patches on the elbows and knees, as well as red accent lines on the forearms, waist, and life-support backpacks—a subtle nod to Prada’s Linea Rossa sub-brand. Notably, the designs are free of any branding or logos.
“This partnership is groundbreaking,” said Russel Ralston, executive vice president of Axiom Space, at the press event. “We are blending engineering, science, and art.”
The suits incorporate several cutting-edge features, allowing astronauts to conduct spacewalks for up to eight hours per day. Engineered boots, heat-reflective materials, and enhanced mobility will protect astronauts from the moon’s extreme temperatures and lunar dust. Prada’s expertise in textiles and craftsmanship played a key role in balancing functionality with design.
Gender-neutral and one-size-fits-all, the spacesuits have been in development for several years. Prada and Axiom Space began discussing the collaboration before the COVID-19 pandemic, with Prada’s team frequently traveling between Milan and Axiom’s headquarters in Houston.
If successful, NASA’s Artemis III mission will mark the first human moon landing since Apollo 17 in 1972, and could see the first woman walk on the moon.
“Today, anyone with deep pockets can go to space,” said Prada Group’s Chief Marketing Officer, Lorenzo Bertelli. “Soon, it will become more affordable, and trips to the moon will be within reach. This is just the beginning of a new era.”
