Aldi is offering its lowest-priced Thanksgiving meal in five years, aiming to outprice one of its biggest competitors, Walmart, as consumers increasingly seek value amid rising costs. The discount grocery chain has launched an “inflation-busting holiday meal” priced at $47, feeding 10 people for just $4.70 per person. This deal is roughly $2 cheaper than Walmart’s comparable offer.
Aldi’s Thanksgiving meal includes traditional holiday staples such as a Butterball turkey, gravy, rolls, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, and ingredients for cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie.
“With 25% of U.S. households now shopping at Aldi, we understand grocery prices are still a top concern for customers,” said Aldi CEO Jason Hart in a press release.
Food prices have surged over the past few years, driven by the pandemic, global conflicts like the war in Ukraine, and extreme weather conditions. While inflation has moderated recently, with grocery prices rising at a 0.9% annual rate as of August, Aldi’s low-priced meal signals the brand’s commitment to offering affordable options as it expands its presence across the U.S.
